Special Educational Needs

The NCCA has established a Special Education Committee which is a broadly based representative group including primary, post-primary and representative groups within special education.

Three working groups have recently been established and they will develop framework curricula in the areas of mild learning disability, moderate learning disability and severe/profound learning disability. Management, teachers, parents and other professions concerned with the education of these students in both mainstream and special education settings are invited to contribute to the development of these frameworks.

This can be achieved by:

*   Submitting ideas on what are considered to be the essential elements of such curriculum guidelines

*   Sharing information with the working groups regarding curriculum development projects, successful school and class programmes and effective teaching approaches and materials.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to curriculum development in special education. The working groups hope as many people as possible will avail of it. We look forward to hearing from you.
