Social, personal and health education
SPHE takes place in a number of ways in the school. Children will learn significantly through experiencing a positive school climate and
atmosphere and exploring aspects of the curriculum through relevant subject areas and in the discrete time (a specific time) provided on the timetable.
The SPHE curriculum fosters in children respect for their own dignity and that of others and promotes a healthy lifestyle and a commitment to the
democratic process. As SPHE has a moral and spiritual dimension it is always developed within the context of the ethos or characteristic spirit of the school. SPHE is a shared responsibility and the involvement of parents at
all stages of the programme is essential for its effectiveness.
SPHE encourages active participation in a side range of activities so that children will become increasingly responsible for their own learning
and be able to apply what they have learned in a variety of situations in their own lives.
